21. The Unknown Gratitude

They often said, “take a moment to be grateful” and it is not easy to do. You might be having an introspection and looking inside you, what to be grateful for. Moreover, we look in the wrong way and end up on an endless, empty path. What I notice is that there is a link between gratefulness and a person or an object that made (or is making) a difference in our life.

Mostly, I feel in debt, not in the wrong way, with people in my life who gave me a lift to help me achieve something meaningful…and also the surrounding objects that help me do things. Hence, when I witness kindness, I always feel amazed by it. Because I know it is a treasure that I received and will be contemplating in a moment when I will feel grateful. I think it is the base of gratitude. If someone does something for you, gives you something, or helps you with anything, then you have that feeling of appreciation toward that person.

That very same feeling, you want to keep it and never forget about it. Here you go, it is the feeling of being grateful. Now you put it somewhere in your mind, your heart, and you engrave it in your soul. And one day, when you feel down, your soul will redirect you to that person, that day, that special thing, and (maybe) you will feel slightly better by recalling that feeling of appreciativeness. Because you found It engraved somewhere on your soul. And this is a process of gratitude. Because your mind has sparked like a lighter and that memory came out. Because your heartbeat reminds of that feeling.

And sometimes, I would look at my phone, or my laptop and remember how they helped me to do my work, how my phone has witnessed my joys and tears. About how I got attached to a show I watched on my laptop, or how I have been visually impressed by an article I read on my laptop. And then, I would feel grateful to have them (the geek in me is feeling emotional).

Let’s keep the music short, because as my sister-in-law used to say when she cooks a great meal, “the most delectable meal is served in small part” and makes the acquaintance of that unknown gratitude, or just smile to the clouds because they feed our imagination with the form we give to them.
