So, I was on Facebook and I saw a friend asking for show recommendations to watch during Ramadan. Also, He wanted shows that have no kissing scenes, no R-rated, no crude language, and so on. And I saw so many suggestions. That’s why I have decided to make my own list.

Another part of this intro is to make something clear about Ramadan. It is not only about making yourself starve for food and water from morning until dusk, and then you feast like a Viking. Well, it is kinda, of not very far from it, but is about educating your senses. Your eyes would need to keep it to decency. Your tongue will have to be gentle. Your body will have to be as calm as possible (besides feeling sleepy). And you can learn about the benefits of Ramadan fasting on the body (somewhere else)

A little disclaimer before going further. If you are not sure about my suggestions; just follow your instinct and don’t agree with me. If you are still not sure about it, please don’t promise me the fire of Hell, because I hate when people do not have their word. And if you are not sure about it; then go and seek other sources.

  1. Rise Of The Ottoman Empire

This one is half a show and half documentary. You learn about the quest of Mehmed II to conquest Constantinople, and how he is obsessed with it. You also learned much more about the Ottoman Empire through the story of Mehmed II. It is available on Netflix with 2 seasons. And you will have the opportunity to learn about history. You can find it on Netflix

2. Diriliş: Ertuğrul

Dirilis Ertugrul is also called “the halal Game of Thrones” because people find that it has the same vibe as #GOT but in halal way. But it is told that the Turkish show is historically accurate in the way that it depicts the rise of the Ottoman Empire. It is entirely in Türkiye. Every episode is at least 2hours long. You can find on netflix

3. The Neighborhood

The Neighborhood is a family sitcom revolving around Dave Johnson & his family moving into a new neighborhood. They bump into the grumpy Calvin Butler who realize that these newcomers are going to be disruptive. The shows revolves around the value of family, friendship, and community. You’ll like both of the family. Check the link to watch it.

4. God Friended Me

This one remains my favorite, even if it lasted for 2 seasons. It is the story of Miles, who became an atheist because He lost faith despite all the efforts of his father, who is a Priest. One day, something happened to him; He receives a friend request on Facebook from God. In every episode, He is tasked to save people through friend suggestions and clues. The show is great in the way that every episode conveys a message of spirituality. Check the link to watch it.

5. Slice Of Life Anime

So, Wikipedia defines Slice Of Life Anime as; a depiction of mundane experiences in art and entertainment. In theater, a slice of life refers to naturalism, while in literary parlance it is a narrative technique in which a seemingly arbitrary sequence of events in a character’s life is presented, often lacking plot development, conflict, and exposition, as well as often having an open ending.

To End, this article is to say whether it is your first Ramadan or another one of a long series (since your childhood). Do not be hard on yourself. Take the time to bond with yourself in this holy month. Appreciate the gathering during the break of the fast, and don’t be a Viking. Besides, there are many types of shows you can allow yourself to watch like the Miyazaki Animations or the animal documentary (I’m laughing here) or you can check TEDx videos.

Ps : I think streaming services should have a Halal watch list during Ramadan.
